Three key adjectives: stalwart, passionate, compelling

Influential Events:

Life in Kurain / Birth of Maya
From further canon materials players are able to learn that the village in which Mia and Maya grew up in was no paradise. Kurain, though its powers were real and true, is a cult and is run as such. Despite implications that Mia's mother Misty made attempts to open the village to the outside world and make changes for the better, Mia's generation and those few following are not the Feys who will reap the benefits of change. Mia got to live the harsh training and jealous side-eyes of her mother's sister, Morgan, before the birth of her sister at age 10.

In the woman-powered village of Kurain, especially as the daughter of the village chief, a sister means competition for power. Though Mia showed promise as a leader, she did what her mother and Morgan couldn't-- she adored her new little sister with all her heart, the choices of the future pushed to the side. The tiny new medium became Mia's treasured friend despite their ages, and often Mia would rush to get her crybaby sister Maya out of whatever trouble she'd get herself in, even going as far as to try and repair the ancient family urn a two-year-old Maya had shattered before their mother could catch them (in a kodak moment, of course).

DL-6

Before Maya had even turned four, though, hers and Mia's lives were changed forever. In attempting to open up to the public and offer their services once more via their connections with the government, Misty had also opened Kurain to the dangers of the manipulative powers of the city. Brought to summon the spirit of Gregory Edgeworth in court when investigations into his murderer were fruitless, Misty performed her duties as instructed. However, wishing to avoid potentially implicating his son, Edgeworth gave the name of the wrong killer, proven in court. With her information sold to the man controlling every lawmaker in the city, Misty was painted as a fraud to the public of Los Angeles and fled to protect the village.

Mia never saw Misty again, but with full knowledge that her powers were not fraudulent, she set out to prove her mother was innocent.

Communing with the Dead / Marvin Grossberg and Co.

"'I have tarnished the Fey name.' Leaving only these words, my mother vanished. I was determined to find the ones who had made my mother blame herself in this way. Using the E.S.P. that runs in my family, I held an audience with the dead. Finally, the names of two men surfaced. One was Marvin Grossberg, a lawyer who sold my mother's information for riches. The other was the man who sold that information to the press."

Described by Maya as one of the most talented channellers, Mia had only one advantage starting her investigation; the ability to commune with the dead. The process involves using her body as a vessel for those she channels, but as simply as writing letters to those she channels, Mia was able to foster conversation. It was through those conversations she uncovered the information she needed, and uncovered her path forward: a law career under the tutelage of the very man who'd sold her mother's information.

In deciding to pursue this path, however, Mia was now faced with a choice; force her sister to take the role of Master of the village of Kurain in her place and have the freedom to clear her mother's name, or protect her sister from the responsibility of the role and take it herself. Maya gave Mia only her undying belief and accepted her fate, and with the strength of her sister's smile on her mind, Mia departed.

Mia remained as diligent in her legal studies as she was in her spiritualist studies, devouring volumes of law books and finished cases alongside watching every law-related movie she could find, documentary or otherwise. She earned her place in school, in passing the bar, and with new friends like Lana Skye, a prosecutor and upperclassman Mia admired, and Diego Armando, an established attorney. With them and Grossberg, Mia became sure of the virtues of being an attorney: protecting the innocent in a legal system where innocence must be proven. She learned to trust her clients with her whole heart, to believe in them, and to keep smiling until the end.

Dahlia, Terry Fawles, and Mia's First Case

Mia's lesson wasn't easily learned; her first official case as a passed-the-bar Attorney was a complete failure for all those involved... except for a witness in 'favor' of the defendant, Dahlia Hawthorne. With her now-boyfriend Diego at her side as legal assistant, Mia battled with the court-favored Demon Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, to prove the innocence of her client, Terry Fawles. In her interrogations, cross examinations, and personal reflections with Terry Fawles, Mia was able to discern that Terry was being used by Dahlia to cover for the murder she'd committed. Her efforts came too late, however; Terry, breaking down, used the poison he'd agreed to use with Dahlia if their troubles came too far, and killed himself on stand just as Mia was turning the court toward his innocence.

The tragedy, along with the treatment she'd received from her fellow professionals, left her shattered for a little while. Still, she and Diego continued to investigate further into the case, desperate to prove at least to themselves that Dahlia was in fact the killer the evidence had shown her to be.

The Death of Diego and Defeating Dollie

Though Mia would not appear again in court for some time, Diego continued his duties within the courthouse and with his own investigations. It was there that, during a lunch with Dahlia, Diego was poisoned and effectively killed. Though police on the scene searched Dahlia, no evidence of the poison was found on her person, and she was let go-- while Mia's boyfriend was left comatose.

Eight months later, much to Marvin Grossberg's surprise, Mia leaps at the opportunity to defend an art school client named Phoenix Wright. Her sudden flight from early retirement shakes the courtroom, and the rival prosecutor claims her rookie status is a shame, considering the consequences. Mia is ready to fight the entire time, however, bearing through Phoenix's disgusting lovey-dovey talk; his girlfriend and a witness to the crime is none other than Dahlia Hawthorne, and Mia is ready not only to prove Dahlia killed Diego, but also that Dahlia was connected to the death Phoenix was accused of.

Mia was right, and proved with evidence in court until Dahlia admitted both crimes-- as well as her intent to kill Phoenix. For now, Mia had won and protected a client she believed in, but Dahlia vowed to have her revenge, stating that she had quite the long memory.

Rise from the Ashes

Though Mia had lost her boyfriend and Phoenix had lost a lover, both of them gained something more important: a belief in both each other, and themselves. Mia's career as an attorney continued and she pushed it further into the path of success, becoming known for her undying smile and belief in her clients. Phoenix studied to become a lawyer as well, eventually finding himself under Mia's tutelage, unaware of the initial motives that continued to keep her running strong. Phoenix's belief in her as well as the news outlets reports gave Mia a respectable reputation, and the prosecutors and detectives that once hardly gave Mia the time of day began to exude respect for her, expecting much out of her chosen prodigy.

Death of a Bachelor(ette)

However, Mia's accomplishments as a lawyer were still not the end of the road for her goals. There was still something left to prove, and all the pieces left to prove it began to fall into place. The trust of Marvin Grossberg, information on a police-dominating man called Redd White, and stolen information resurfacing-- all gained while Phoenix wasn't looking. Mia had most of the information she needed to confront Redd White and knew the danger of doing so, orchestrating her plans for the evening so that if anything happened to her, Maya (on her way to the city for a visit) would be okay, and Phoenix might be able to continue her work.

Her suspicions were correct; Redd White, threatened by Mia's investigations, became violent and killed her in her own office just before Maya and later Phoenix arrived on the scene. The timing left Maya as the only suspect, with no one but Phoenix to defend her despite Maya being left with instructions to contact Grossberg. Mia hadn't abandoned them in death, however, always at their sides. Phoenix had figured that had only meant metaphorically, what with him remembering all of her advice when necessary-- but as Maya's innocence was proven and the blame shifted, Phoenix found his mentor at his side again. Maya had called Mia from the dead to appear to Phoenix, and boy had she been waiting to talk. With Maya and Phoenix's help in the land of the living, Mia's efforts lead to the indictment of Redd White for her murder, as well as exposing Redd White's constant bribery, control of the police, and the ruin he'd laid upon Misty's name.

With her final goal achieved, one might expect Mia to rest more, but one responsibility still remains: Maya. Mia had put care of Phoenix in Maya's hands (and, as such, care of Maya in Phoenix's), but from her place in the world of the dead Mia continues to watch Maya and Phoenix, coming to their aid when successfully called. Though when channeled by Maya, Mia can't interact with her sister, she does take her place to help Phoenix in court, assist with investigations as long as Maya can support the channel, and even sometimes communicates with Maya via writing letters. Though she may be limited in how she can interact with the living, restricted often to watching (if she's even awake to watch), Mia remains adamant about making sure Maya is safe-- and especially that she doesn't take harm from Dahlia's plans for revenge.

Chosen path: Monk
3 Abilities:Mystery of Death, Radiant Sun Bolt, Observant
Why this path?: Other than operating quite similarly to Mia's own home traditions, the Monk path also reflects much of the tactics and lifestyle choices Mia had to make as a lawyer-in-training and beyond. Mia's always been a bit reactive, often resorting to punching or otherwise hitting the men near her as not to do the same to a client or witness. Like the fighting style of a monk Mia can be impulsive and brash and bold, but truly shines when she focuses and believes. As any spiritualist must be, Mia is flexible, swaying when need be but rooting herself deep beneath the shore when the waves of conflict crash in. She is able to stand stalwart against foes like Dahlia because of how she was able to adapt her spiritual teachings to her chosen path in life, which she'll continue to do here.

Character's Name: Mia Fey

Canon: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Canon Point: A few weeks past game three and the Hazakura case
Species: Human
Gender: Female

History: On the Ace Attorney Wiki
Appearance: IMAGE
Mia Fey stands at 5'6 or 168cm, a full five inches taller than her younger sister. With at least one Japanese parent, she has the typical straight-brown hairstyle popular in Japan. Though it was darker in her youth, it is still a considerably lighter brown than Maya Fey's. She wears a yellow scarf and her family magatama, which has a purplish-blue hue. Obviously one of her most recognisable traits (often a visual gag when summoned by her considerably smaller sister and young cousin) is her large chest, which together with the mole on her face and her added height are the combination of features that carry through when she is being channelled by Pearl or Maya Fey. She wears a black, skirted suit and white high-heeled shoes, and generally carries herself with an almost commanding air of grace.

Personality:

If Beyoncé were somehow rendered into a video-game lawyer, she would be Mia Fey.

Quite possibly the real hero of the original series, Mia serves as a Deus-ex-Machina, a guide, a comforting presence, and a source of incomparable snark. Players just starting the game have assumed that in its beginning, she was fridged.

Mia Fey went Chuck Norris on the fridge.

Really. It's a testament to her incredible stubbornness that even in death, Mia serves an important role throughout all three video games she appears in. She's a force of nature. Though Phoenix is her protégé, it's quite possible that even he cannot compare to how much of a brick wall of faith Mia Fey is. Through every case, she never stopped believing in her clients, and more importantly never stopped believing in Phoenix and Maya. In fact, she taught Phoenix almost everything he knows… including the art of the bluff.

It's easy to see Mia in Phoenix if you've seen them both in court. If Phoenix is the bluffing king, Mia is the goddess from whose hands the technique was forged in the gavel-ridden gates of "it looks like no one's going to find evidence for the defence" hell.
From her own mentor, Diego Armando, Mia learned the one key to surviving in their twisted Turnabout Court; bullshitting it until the evidence aligned in the favour of the truth. In their courts, a quick ruling was preferred even over a truthful one, and fighting for the truth often required the tactics that made Mia the bullshitting queen. This stubborn woman couldn't be stopped in or out of court. During investigations, Defence Attorneys are often limited in what evidence they have access to. However, if Mia truly believed her defendant was innocent, even if every effort seemed futile, she would upturn every investigation until she found justice.

In one of the two cases the player gets to play as Mia, her boss, Marvin Grossberg, acknowledges that Mia had a fire and determination in her green years that veteran lawyers lacked-- and that he proves later on even he lacks. (Grossberg actually even says that Mia is the only one who could match Gregory Edgeworth's abilities in court, which is implied to be a high honour. Though Mia does eventually say Phoenix has become a great lawyer and she has nothing more to teach him, it's likely that Gregory and Mia's cases went much less… tumultuously than Phoenix's tend to.) Intimidating in court, Mia's body language could set her opponents shivering in their boots. With a flip of her hair or a smug smirk, Mia Fey could send a shudder of doubt down the spines of the prosecution. Even in teaching, she was incredibly effective; similar to her younger sister, Mia is an expert at pointing out case flaws and asking the right questions to help Phoenix and others understand just what's wrong with their argument.

Aside from her legal life, however, Mia is also an incredible sister. In Kurain village, female children of the Master must compete with each other for the title of the next master. Mia wasn't having that. She cared for her sister Maya more than anything, and even abandoned Kurain's practices despite being a very proficient channeller. On the outside, it may have seemed that Mia left only to pursue law and to clear the name of her mother, but at the end of game three, Sister Bikini mentions that Mia's true intention may have been to prevent Maya from having to compete with her. Nothing could come in the way of Mia protecting her little sister, either-- not even her own death.

One may think this is only the result of Mia's sister's and Pearl's ability to channel her. They'd be wrong. Mia Fey repeatedly made her presence known to Phoenix without being channelled and proceeded to save his sorry ass from certain doom when she clearly could have gone to rest. It has been joked about that Mia would probably be summoned to open a pickle jar for his hopeless self. It's only sad because it isn't far from the truth, considering her sister once summoned her to flirt for information from an old man with a thing for busty waitresses. In addition, Mia (along with Phoenix) basically performed an exorcism on her sister by literally badmouthing Dahlia Hawthorne until she couldn't handle being in Maya's body anymore. If Death is a stopsign, Mia clearly didn't get the memo.

If that hasn't been enough to sell everyone on the fact that Mia is a Class-S Badass, she's also incredibly physically attractive. Everyone seems to admire her, and though the admiration of a cast of really dumb boys is questionable, the fans admire her quite a bit, too. Even after death she wins the attention of many people via Maya's channelling or through her photo being shown to others-- and during their lives, Mia was the girlfriend of a certain coffee-glutton lawyer.

However, one must also keep in mind that this game is Ace Attorney, and even the baddest of badasses, the bossest of bitches, and the most divine of divas can have some very stupid and hilarious flaws. Among these flaws and quirks is her strange inability to pronounce names correctly, at least on the first few tries. While it's unclear if she's simply bad at remembering them or is just doing it to be a little shit, she does seem to have a real problem with getting names down, and that's not counting the fact that many people in the game pull puns or insults into other people's names. She also seems to have an affinity for plants and despite her apparent dedication to her work, she's also pretty well acquainted with pop culture. This can lead her to having some saucy insults, but just like with the rest of the cast, sometimes her snark can fall just short of the mark. She's also not above white-lying to keep her sister out of trouble, saying things that aren't exactly encouraging to Phoenix, and expressing a sense of humour that is often morbid or even slightly crude. In addition, while it's true that she's quite strong-hearted and can keep on a smile or serious face when it comes to stressful situations, this is only because she's overcome trauma in her past and because of the advising of her mentor Diego. Mia's likely got other flaws (as any human being does), but as they are not mentioned in canon and are only speculation and headcanon, they will be addressed in play or in a separate headcanon post.

Some trivia (mentioned in the wiki) that also provides insight on Mia's personality is the nature of her punny name in the Japanese game:
"Her Japanese given name, 'Chihiro' (千尋), can mean 'great depth', or 'a thousand fathoms'. Shu Takumi describes her name as being a pun, with the kanji together meaning 'a thousand questions', as in 'If I have to ask him 1000 times, I will!' The second kanji is also the first in 'cross examination'."

This nature is proven in her lengthy cross examinations during the two cases she acts as Defence attorney for in AA2 and 3.

Also mentioned in the wiki as trivia is the fact that her body language in court as a young defence attorney was designed to show the effect she had on Phoenix; they resemble each other in these motions quite a bit, and their Objection! pose in AA3 is shown to be incredibly similar.

Abilities:

It's implied that Mia has the same channelling abilities as Maya and Pearl and was once a better channeller than Maya. However, because she's a. dead and b. does not use these abilities, it is unclear as to whether her having given up her training meant she also gave up these abilities, as they are passed down by blood. Even if these spiritual abilities were to be returned to her, she likely would not use them.

Mia also has the incredible power of the bluff and the bullshit, if that wasn't mentioned enough already. She's very studious and great at understanding all those legal books Phoenix refuses to read.

If sass and badmouthing those in the wrong are also natural talents, sure, that works too.

Other: Mia also possesses a Magatama. Though she's never seen using it in canon, one can assume it possesses the same abilities as the magatamas Phoenix and Maya wear.
