[ if mia is looking for her little sister, it might take her a while to find her. she's nowhere near the tow, she's not even stuffing her face, she's off by herself in the wilderness.... watching over mcree's body. that's all she can do until they get go back to base -- wait, pray, and watch over him. she's tried the alternative way of revivals - but it hasn't worked. ]
[ when mia finds her, she'll be sitting on the ground hugging her knees, with nick junior perched on her head. she hasn't noticed big sis, yet. ]
[With all that's happened, of course Mia's looking for Maya. Perhaps it's the fact she's got the opportunity at all, or perhaps because of her own feelings of powerlessness, she has to seek her sister out as soon as she can.
When Mia approaches Maya it's on quiet steps, and she sinks down to her own knees beside Maya, minding Nick Jr's tail as she does.]
Hey, kiddo.
[comes a quiet greeting as Mia puts a hand on her little sister's shoulder.
[ nick junior is usually burning hot to anyone who isn't maya, but not for mia. he chirps at her when she arrives, and maya looks up, her eyes widening. ]
Sis....
[ it's hard not to immediately burst into tears because she's been holding them back, but she manages to swallow back her feelings. ]
Are you okay? [ she was so caught up with mccree she hasn't checked in yet, and she's just now realizing that. ]
[Mia leans in closer to see, once again distracted by the wonders of jellyfish.]
History? Is that right?
[Well, they learned a whole lot by drinking jellyfish... Secretions, so looking into jellyfish doesn't seem any worse than that. Of course, the first jellyfish didn't share secrets.]
Well, I was doing a little research and I came across something that might turn out useful. Not sure yet. I took some video of it that I wanna get your opinion on.
[ On the morning of the 25th, there's a pile of doorstoppers outside the Fey room. Three presents wrapped in cheerfully tacky paper - one purple, for Maya, one yellow, for Mia, and one in Wright Blue for Nick.
Inside Mia's is a small collection of various curiosities. A more advanced first aid kit then can be found in Fantasy Costco, specifically for when healing might not be an option. A knife with a small, easily concealable blade, for self defense. A small, sturdy journal, bound in dark leather. And two vials of perfume from Lyrabar and a small, hardwood case of fancy makeup.
There's also a note, in Lion's painfully neat handwriting.
"Some of this feels more... on the nose, now, in light of recent events, but I believe the original intent should speak for itself. I wanted to thank you for being someone to look up to, and keeping us going through these long months, even when I'm sure you're struggling with your own fears - but please don't be afraid of leaning on us, too.
My apologies if the cosmetics are off-base- but I thought that sometimes it helps to feel pretty.
[Michael was more confident in Mia's gift than Maya's. Even if Eleanor probably knows her better, he did spend an awful lot of time sharing a spa tent with the woman.
Anyway, this is the first time Michael's ever gotten people gifts en masse, and a certain theme has emerged. He really, really wants to make sure everybody is appropriately protected, even if he's not going to be around to do it. So Mia will receive one small wrapped package outside her door a few days before Christmas.]
Happy holiday(s). I hope these might come in handy.
- Michael
[Inside are a pair of hair decorations. They are very pretty! They are also notably sharp and presumably good for stabbing. Don't, uh, hurt yourself putting them in...]
[ The gift itself isn't a surprise - the day they teamed up to make Maya's gift, Mia herself was handed it before she left. A small box like you'd put a phone or amulet inside, wrapped in violet fabric sewn shut and given with express instruction not to open it until Christmas. Or Candlenights. Or whatever the hell they're calling it now, he doesn't do holidays, don't @ him.
Whether or not she listens doesn't matter. Upon unraveling, there's only a letter and a closed box. The letter just kind of cements the whole gift as the most old-school 1900's vibe gift she's ever received, considering it's written on old parchment in the type of sweeping scriptive calligraphy you only find in that generation.
Mia Fey,
As you have naught to do with the Grand Court, this needs a bit of explanation. Similar to your attorney's badge, each branch of the Court had its own symbol: an icon which signified what that District represented, and the values they strived to achieve in all walks of life. To earn the right to wear these were considered the highest honor one could achieve.
The Red Key of Judgment denies the existence of lies, while the Blue Key of Reflection guides a spirit to seek truth. Together, these were the blades of justice that saved souls, once wielded by the strongest person I've known. While these are not proper Keys, I still believe it is only fitting that someone with that same spirit of justice should hold them.
While this gift has no secondary potential as a weapon, due to the composition of the beads, I believe it counts as a Divine Focus, according to this reality's rules toward spellcasting. Replacements are included in case of fracture or deterioration. However, as the rosary these were taken from had existed for millennia, I doubt there will be issues.
Besides: it seemed wrong to not have you match.
- W. Huntington
P.S.: I am uncertain if this is to your style, so if you have any complaints, please return it so it can be fashioned into something more desirable.
Lesson taken here: he should be banned from writing letters.
In the box itself is a single choker, strewn of iolite and ivory beads that feel eerily sacred; Light in her hands. The main amulet is a small violet orb, filled with small scraps of paper rolled up into the tiniest stars. They'll glow in the dark for a ridiculous amount of time, but due to the color of the crystal, will be a soft violet in low-light environments. It's held in place with a simple emblem of two keys crossed over each other in an X.
It also comes with a small glass vial, filled with extras of the blue and white stones, and opening it at any point gives an infinitely more condensed feeling of Staring Into A Bright Light, all hopes and good intentions in physical form. ]
[In front of Mia's door is a knitted yellow dog. It's clearly not made by a knitting expert, but effort was put into it, and it does look like a dog. If she compares it later to Maya's, she'll find that it matches, except Mia's is bigger. They're sibling knitted dogs.
There's no tag or anything, but there is an attached green stick on bow.]
[A messily-wrapped box, with Mia's name written directly on the colorful paper. There's a handmade card on top, decorated with stickers and doodles of wintry images like snow, gingerbread men, etc. It's not properly signed, but the signature isn't necessary. On one side of the interior:]
Tall green trees in lights twinkling bright, Sparkling strands of tinsel and snow pure white, The smell of hot cocoa and apple cider too, A very merry Candlenights, from Sayori to you!
[And then on the other side:]
I noticed you wear a lot of earrings, and the purple in these reminded me of Maya, so I thought you'd like them. Thank you for looking out for me, and everyone else too! I've never had siblings, so it's really nice to know a big sister has my back.
[Inside the box is a jewelry box with a set of earrings and a nicely-wrapped sampler of cocoas and coffees, nestled in a hand-painted mug that says "#1 Big Sis" in Sayori's handwriting.]
[Inferred context: - The shops on the ex-moon are a bit of a hike out. - Since becoming human-shaped again, Erika has been lethargic and rarely out of someone's company when not in her room or with the sims. - She's not well known for saying "please".]
[Not on the Day of Candlenight's itself, but later that evening, there's a big bundle at Mia and Maya's room, slipped there while everyone was enjoying their holiday festivities, and wrapped very sloppily but with a handful of envelopes attached to it. There's a note tied to the bow.]
Sorry, this took a lot longer to wrap up than I thought! I hope you don't mind!
[If Maya and Mia dig into the present, they'll realize it's a shared gift. And not only is it a shared gift, it's a big one. While there is an envelope with a letter for each of them, it's secondary to the main gift.
In what could have only been painstakingly hand-drawn by Phoenix himself, is a recreation of the first time the three of them reunited on the moonbase in the hospital - Maya clinging tightly to Phoenix as he's sandwiched between her and Mia. There's no color to the picture itself - but the picture is done on a posterboard that looks like it was traced on and re-done a few times to get it just right - there's the loving hint of eraser marks and various residue of the sketch layer. And the posterboard is large enough to be put up in the room itself - not quite as all-encompassing as a certain lawyer's favorite painting, certainly. But perhaps that's for the best.]
[When Mia opens her note, she'll receive a much smaller sketch - of herself. Recreated and slightly stylized, as if she's at the defense bench in a courtroom, but with her brand new Balance attire, alongside a note.]
Mia,
Words can't begin to describe the emotions that go through me every time I see you here alive, in the flesh. I'm sure Maya feels the same, and has told you many times, but I wanted to say it myself.
I don't know if she's ever said as much, but you've always been an inspiration to us both. Strong, dependable, and fearless. I wouldn't be who I am today without the lessons you taught me.
But, even still, I want to keep you safe. I know that's selfish, and maybe a little foolish. But you don't have to be the invincible big sister all the time. And I don't mind picking up the slack where you falter. Just say the word, and I'll be there to defend you, too - after all, who's going to protect the great protector, if not her trusty protege?
And... even if we do have to go back to the way things were. If there's no way that the three of us will be able to stay together like this, once it's all said and done. Then I want to make this time the happiest all three of us have ever been, but you, especially. I think that's the best legacy I can leave.
So don't be afraid to trust your protege with the hard truths. He might still have a while yet to go, but he's come a long way.
[A few days after Candlenights, Mia wakes up to a gift box at the end of her bed. Creepy. On top is a handmade card full of doodles of her being totally badass, as well as her and Maya. Inside the card is a short message telling her that she's pretty cool for an old lady, and that he's happy he got to meet her.
Inside the box is a bag of handmade treats (that don't look very good but they're edible and taste decent), a notepad with a cute cat on the front, some pretty cute stickers of cats and rabbits, and a quill pen plus a few bottles of ink (with a separate note that explains how cool quill pens are). There's also a mug with a sleepy looking cat on the front that reads "good meow-ning".
.......and a case folder????? It definitely LOOKS like a case folder at the bottom, under all of that. And it looks professional enough when she opens it to look at the papers. But reading it further makes it obvious that it's definitely a fictional case, detailing some fantasy caper performed by a group of phantom thieves known as D.I.C.E. It seems these thieves took an incredibly rare and valuable hair pin from a famous pianist, and it's full of clues to help her solve it.
